Wonderful Embroidered & Beaded Romanian Gypsy Peasant Blouse!
This Pretty Traditional Blouse dated from the 1930's & has seen several Generations of Wear, having been passed down through the women of the family. The Blouse is made from a coarse Silk Georgette in off white, with wonderful vertical Stripes of Red Pearl Stitch Hand Embroidery on the Front and Voluminous Sleeves, and a Polka Dot Pattern on the back, also Embroidered. 100's of Tiny Crystal Beads are Sewn throughout the embroidery all over the entire blouse. The Pattern is a Flowering Vine, twining up a center Line.
The Blouse is sewn together at the seams with red embroidery stitching, which adds to the design. Cuffs are narrow and Embroidered with mother of pearl buttons, and Loops for closure. The Neck has a Draw string and is adjustable. The waist has been reworked with a channel and thin elastic.
This Blouse is Loose and would fit several Sizes. MEASUREMENTS:
BUST: 50" + WAIST: Up to 46" LENGTH: 16" on the Sides to 21" Front & Back SLEEVE LENGTH: 26"
Condition on this piece is Very Used, with a good number of small reweaves, tucks and mends, mostly on the Sleeves. See the Picture on the right below for an example of the types of repairs it has. These are located for the most part in specific areas, and generally aren't too obvious, as most are less than an inch in size, may are much smaller. Also there are a few Beige to light tan spots, some grey speckling on one sleeve, and numerous tiny worn spots, larger than pinholes, that could use mending, but are probably okay left as is. This Blouse was probably used for daily wear, and if you don't mind a little history, has a lot of wear left in it.
